Quinoa (pronounced as keen-wah) is not a grain contrary to popular beliefs; it is actually derived from the seed of a plant that is related to spinach. The Incas cultivated it as one of their staple crops and hailed it as their “Gold” because it helped increase the stamina of the Incan warriors back in the old days.

Quinoa is considered a superfood because it has high fiber content and it has a perfect balance of all eight essential amino acids. It is also a great source of protein which means you can skip meat and protein shakes! This is great news for vegetarians! It actually contains more protein than any other grain. Quinoa contains iron and potassium as well. We’re not quite done yet… quinoa also contains Vitamin B6, thiamin, niacin, potassium, riboflavin an amino acid called lysine which can be rarely found in most grains. Want more?
